REPORT: Michigan Quarterback Alex Orji sent heartfelt messages over teammate departure

Michigan Quarterback Alex Orji Shouts Out Former Teammate Who Signed With SEC Team

The Michigan football team is starting fresh this season with a new head coach, Sherrone Moore, and a new starting quarterback, most likely sophomore Alex Orji.

Orji saw action in Michigan’s biggest games last year behind center including the Rose Bowl vs. Alabama, ‘The Game’ vs. Ohio State, and the National Championship Game vs. the Washington Huskies, during which he ran twice for 15 yards.

Complicating matters for Orji is one surprising stat: he did not attempt a pass last season, as he was mostly utilized as a rushing threat.

Orji appears ready to take on a leadership role this season based on his offseason comments. He’s saying all the right things, even stating recently that his goal this season is to do whatever it takes to help Michigan win all of its games for a second straight season, regardless of whether he is the starting quarterback or not.

Orji continued his good vibes offseason late Saturday night when he decided to give a shoutout to a name Michigan football fans are very familiar with: Keon Sabb.

Sabb had a co-starring role in Michigan’s stacked secondary last season before surprising Wolverine Nation by taking his talents to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to play for new coach Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide.

Orji has not forgotten his former teammate, based on an Instagram post that showed Sabb in his new Alabama digs.

Since then, Michigan’s stout secondary has reloaded with the additions of Aamir Hall, Wesley Walker, Jaden Mangham and Ricky Johnson III in the transfer portal.

Sabb’s presence will certainly be missed, but the sense around Ann Arbor is that the team’s defense could be the best it’s been a long time, going back to last season, the 1997 national championship season, and beyond.

That would be the best case scenario for a Michigan offense  that could take a few weeks to find its rhythm with several new starters preparing to take the field.
