In a recent transaction, the Chicago Cubs have acquired right-handed reliever Ryan Brasier from the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers will receive either cash considerations or a player to be named later, and have agreed to cover a portion of Brasier’s $4.5 million salary for the 2025 season.
Brasier, 37, was designated for assignment by the Dodgers on January 30, 2025, following their acquisitions of relievers Kirby Yates and Tanner Scott. In the 2024 season, Brasier appeared in 29 games, posting a 3.54 ERA over 28 innings. He was part of the Dodgers’ World Series-winning team last fall and previously won a championship with the Boston Red Sox in 2018.
To make room for Brasier on their 40-man roster, the Cubs have designated left-handed pitcher Rob Zastryzny for assignment. Zastryzny, 32, had a 1.17 ERA in nine games with the Milwaukee Brewers last year and holds a career 4-0 record with a 4.30 ERA over 54 major league appearances.
This move aims to bolster the Cubs’ bullpen with an experienced arm as they prepare for the upcoming season.
