Tragedy strike: five teenagers killed in School bus car crash in Smoky Mountains..

persons from Virginia died in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park when their car collided with another vehicle driven by a Tennessee teenager.

The accident occurred at about 10 p.m. Saturday on the Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge Spur in the park. A car driven by Myra Nelson, 64, of Chesapeake crossed the spur, also known as U.S. Highway 441.

Park spokesman Bob Miller said the woman had just left a bridge when her Chrysler was struck by a northbound Honda Accord driven by Johnny Hall, 18, of Lebanon, Tenn.

Killed along with Mrs. Nelson were her husband, George Nelson, 80, and passengers Anthony Dietz, 70, his wife, Betty Dietz, both of Virginia Beach, and Mrs. Nelson’s mother, Audrey Fentress, also of Chesapeake.

The victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr. Hall and his passenger, Johsua Barrett, 16, were taken by helicopter to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment. Mr. Hall was being treated for head and facial injuries; the younger man was treated and released.

It was not known whether the occupants in the two vehicles were wearing seat belts.
